Breach of Contract

Breach of contract occurs when one party fails to go along with the terms of an agreement made with another party. The parties can be people or companies or other organisations. The agreement might be set down in writing or contained only in spoken words. If someone has broken an agreement with you, you have a right to seek compensation according to the law, or to have the court order the other party to stop the breach or even perform the contract as it was agreed in the first place.

The remedy to which you may be entitled will depend on the circumstances. Resolution of disputes about breach of contract tend to require a close look at the words used to form the agreement, and an interpretation of what the parties took those words to mean at the time they entered into the agreement.
