Sue K. Chen, B.A, M.B.A, J.D
Sue Chen is the Principal of Sue Chen Lawyers, where she leads a litigation practice serving clients in Toronto, Vancouver, and New York. With over two decades of experience, Ms. Chen has developed a reputation for rigorous advocacy and sound strategic judgment, combining her legal training with an M.B.A. to advise clients on complex business and litigation matters.

Ms. Chen is a litigator and legal strategist with over two decades of experience advising clients across Toronto, Vancouver, and New York. As Principal of Sue Chen Lawyers, she has built a practice grounded in rigorous advocacy, sound business judgment, and a disciplined approach to dispute resolution. The skills she brings equally to the boardroom and the courtroom.
Ms. Chen’s practice centers on personal injury and commercial litigation, and she has successfully represented clients across a wide range of civil and criminal matters. Her background in mediation, arbitration, and trial work has made her a tenacious advocate and skilled negotiator, someone who understands both the legal and human dimensions of each case. The cases that land on her desk tend to be the ones where the stakes are personal: injuries, disputes, and moments where clients need someone who won't flinch. She has taken cases through mediation, arbitration, and full trial. She knows exactly when to push for a deal and when to go all the way.
One notable result: her advocacy in Ng v. Beline produced a published judgment in the Ontario Reports at the Divisional Court, the kind of precedent that shows up in other lawyers' research.

BEYOND THE COURTROOM
Ms. Chen’s legal expertise extends well beyond private practice. Her command of negotiation, mediation, and advocacy has made her a sought-after strategic advisor to charitable and nonprofit organizations navigating complex governance, risk, and stakeholder challenges. She currently serves on the Board of Thrive for Good and worked in a medical mission clinic with Mully Children’s Foundation applying the same precision and care to community service that defines her legal work.
Sue is an active leader in the legal and nonprofit community and a recognized leader in the Chinese Canadian community. She chaired the FCCP Education Foundation’s 45th Anniversary Gala (October 2026), mentors emerging women leaders through the ACCE Magnolia Chapter’s Chinese Asian Women’s Initiative, and volunteers her time delivering meals on wheels for BC Health & Home Care. She serves as Executive Director of the Asian Chinese Canadian Lawyers Organization, President of the Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals, and holds board positions with the FCCP Education Foundation (present) and Coral Place Community Housing (past).
Sue is deeply connected to the Chinese Canadian community and has equally represented clients from diverse cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and care. She brings that same thoughtfulness to every file she takes on. Her legal insights and commentary have been featured across major media outlets such as the CBC, Fairchild News, Fairchild Radio, Singtao, Mingpao, CHIN Radio, and Today Daily News. She has appeared as a guest speaker on a six-episode legal education series on Fairchild Radio, last aired in August 2026. In 2026, Sue authored the Foreword to a forthcoming medical textbook on Diseases common to the Canadian Chinese population. Her contributions to the profession and to social impact have earned her a number of nominations.
In the wider mainstream, Sue was invited to be a guest on the “Taking The Leap” video series (2025) about entrepreneurship. Sue discussed the fears of starting a law business, the pleasant surprises, and hardships of being a business owner, and what she thinks aspiring entrepreneurs should know before they go off on their own.
When Sue isn't in a file, she's usually mid-lesson on something. Piano, guitar, vocals, golf and watercolor painting. She takes on new skills the same way she takes on cases: head-on.

Nick Hamilton B.A, J.D. - Partner
Nick obtained his law degree from the University of Alberta, where he was awarded the Sheldon M. Chumir scholarship for Ethics in Government. After graduating, he articled at a leading national law firm in Toronto.
Nick joined Sue Chen Lawyers P.C. in 2016. His practice focuses on personal injury and commercial litigation, including contract disputes, employment litigation, and construction and real property litigation.
Nick is a skilled litigator. He has successfully represented clients at the Divisional Court, Superior Court, Provincial Court and before various tribunals. He is always aggressively pursuing negotiated resolutions for his clients, but when necessary he will present an organized and compelling case in court. In this regard, he has been recognized by the Court for his "able and skilled submissions." (First On Campus Development Ltd. v. YH Specialty Glass Ltd., 2019 ONSC 1279)
When he is not working (and not injured) Nick spends most of his time training and competing in Olympic Weightlifting.

Daniaal Sibtain, B.A, J.D
Called to the Bar of Ontario in 2020, Daniaal joined Sue Chen Lawyers in 2019 as an articling student and continues as a lawyer today.
At the law school of University of Calgary, he volunteered with Student Legal Assistance providing representation and advice to Calgary students and low-income residents on a range of matters. He gained invaluable experience providing summary legal advice and assisting duty counsel while volunteering for Pro Bono Students Canada as Civil Claims Duty Counsel. He is passionate about access to justice and prides himself on approaching every client with the utmost compassion and consideration.
His areas of practice are general civil litigation, personal injury and employment. He has appeared before the Ontario Small Claims Court and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
An avid sports fan (go Raptors!) who is active in the Mississauga and South Asian community, Daniaal is fluent in English, Urdu and Hindi.

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
Mimi serves as the initial point of contact for the firm, managing front-desk operations, client communications, and executive scheduling, and daily office operations to keep the firm running seamlessly. Driven by a deep commitment to service, she balances rigorous administrative oversight with a genuinely empathetic approach to every individual who walks through the door. She understands that individuals reaching out for legal counsel are often navigating stressful and complex life circumstances. She excels at putting clients at ease, actively listening to their concerns, and ensuring their needs are handled with discretion and care.
Outside the office, Mimi is an avid reader who enjoys contemporary fiction and mystery novels. A dedicated cinephile, Mimi would binge-watch old and new movies, with a borderless palate for movies of all genres and languages without bias, and she loves spending her weekends exploring the local culinary scene in search of great food and new restaurants.
